Reducing your carbon footprint.

Upall pallets are a unique product, with protection that prolongs the life of environmentally friendly wooden pallets.

The pallets and their protectors are sustainably produced and fully recyclable. The wood and virgin polypropylene used to manufacture them can each form part of a closed loop, within which the pallets and protectors are repaired and reused – until they reach the end of their useful life and are recycled.

Through its part ownership by James Jones & Sons, Upall pallets have comprehensive sustainability and environmental credentials.

100% certified wood

Every piece of wood used to manufacture or repair a Upall pallet is sustainable and FSC® certified. Our chain of custody procedures provide full traceability from the source of the wood to guaranteed supply chain legality and sustainability.

James Jones were one of the first UK timber companies to gain FSC® accreditation and environmental certification ISO14001 for harvesting, sawmilling and timber engineering.

Responsible, verified sourcing

James Jones are a Responsible Purchaser under the Timber Trade Federation’s (TTF) Responsible Purchasing Process. Consequently, all Upall’s timber sourcing and pallets are EUTR compliant and derived from known and trusted sources.

Their sustainability claims are independently verified by the Soil Association on an ongoing annual basis. With the trade body Confor, James Jones work closely with FSC® and PEFC to ensure it complies with any future sustainability requirements.

ISO 14001:2015 management

These include innovative timber planting and harvesting methods; the introduction of energy saving biomass heating systems utilising wood co-products; the continuous commitment to waste minimisation and the design of award-winning sustainable drainage systems.

These systems and measures, combined with our knowledgeable and engaged employees, help ensure the delivery of wood products with the smallest environmental footprint possible.

This long-term commitment to ISO 14001:2015 guarantees compliance with current and forthcoming legislation and delivers timber products with excellent and continually improving environmental credentials.

A unique life cycle assessment capability, combined with our sustainable sourcing and ISO 14001:2015 certifications, make James Jones & Sons Ltd the UK’s most environmentally sound, large scale timber processor, and therefore the logical choice for all timber requirements.

Reduced greenhouse gas emissions – Upall pallets are more durable, extending the lifespan and resulting in fewer vehicle return trips, less fuel consumption, fewer repairs and savings in energy consumption.

Carbon is locked up in the wood longer, reducing the carbon footprint.

Pallet durability means greater pallet utilisation, resulting in more trips per pallet, lower pallet stock inventory and less wood needed overall.

Wood is from FSC® sustainable resources.

Once the pallet comes to the end of its lifecycle wood can be recycled or used as biofuel.

The virgin polypropylene protectors are fully recyclable.

Heat treated as standard

With access to the largest kiln drying capacity in the UK, every Upall pallet is manufactured to meet the international phytosanitary regulation ISPM15, which prevents the spread of pests travelling in solid wood.

UPALL pallets are kiln dried to an average moisture content of 18-22% to ensure precise fitment of the guards.

The heat treatment process is applied strictly in accordance with the United Kingdom Wood Packaging Materials Marking Programme (UKWPMMP) regulations.

James Jones were the first pallet manufacturer to achieve the TIMCON premium drying standard, which minimises the risk of mould developing on timber pallets.

Tough, recyclable protectors

The guards on Upall pallets are made from 100% virgin polypropylene. A tough, flexible, mechanically rugged material with a high chemical resistance, the polypropylene pallet guards have a tough design so they can be used many times.

They are fully recyclable and, once they reach the end of their useful life, can be recovered and reground for use in the production of products such as chairs, crates, pallets or others.
